Turner opened the meeting at 7:00 pm


Item 1: Elaine Navar –Mayor’s Office

The mayor’s budget this year spends about $330m. Residents are invited to City Council work sessions and meetings. Liberty Park improvements should be complete soon. Freedom Loop Hike on May 27.

Item 2: Andrew Johnston –City Council District Two

More money will be spent on street improvements –about $20m. Should also be able to track on city website. Glendale Park improvements will be complete by next summer. Andrew has been campaigning for a City Parks Ranger (separate from SLPD). WaterPark Improvements are also under discussion. Homeless Services continue to deal with homeless camp issues. Residents are reminded about the mobile app for reporting wide range of issues.

Item 3; Fire Department

May is Stroke Awareness month. Beware of stream/river flooding during run-off.

Item 4: Det. Oliver –SLPD

4 officers are now working the Jordan River Corridor. New department protocol means that a majority of officers will be on patrol at any point in time. Bike Patrol currently dealing with Rose Park problems.

Item 5; SLC Engineering and Transport Div. –Street Repair / Maintenance

Maintenance crews have recently been doubled in size (lane mile capacity now at 155). It was pointed out that recent repair projects have had multiple failures –Engineering said these have been addressed. Project schedule for next few years was presented. 

Item 6: Modal Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s)

Well suited to Glendale lot size. Cost: installed unit plus service connections and fees is about $120K. 4’ side lot clearances and 10’ clear to existing home​

Item 7: Mayor Candidates: Erin Mendenhall

Some of her campaign issues are; expansion of youth activities, brought bike squad back, increased access to affordable housing, increase transit connectivity.
